Illustration Friday - Memories

I would love some feedback on this piece. I wanted to leave the clothes without color so that the focal point would be her face but does it seem too rushed? Any other suggestions for the future?

I'm no art critic but I think you did a great job. Leaving the dress plain helps to keep the focus on the faces.

It's lovely. Her features are interesting and your line work is very expressive.

Would you consider having her looking down at the photo? That might make the connection too obvious, but it also might help connect the two colored parts of the drawing.

Also maybe tone down the white in the background of the photo. A softer cream might work better with the overall color palette.

I agree with Lindsay. I would like to see her smiling as she admires how beautiful her memories are of herself.

I like that the face is the only color.
I like that is shows ethnicity too!

Just to shake things up a little-- I'm not sure I agree with the suggestions to have the woman look down. To me, it's like she's sharing her story with someone-- a grandchild, maybe, or us, the audience. I think it's more celebratory that way, rather than bittersweet or even regretful.

I love that you left the body as a sketch. It really helps tie the faces together, plus I just love when artists leave little unfinished bits in their finished art. It's like a secret peek into their process!
